From The Back Row... Uberplex & Little Boxes
Finally, Fareham has a cinema again. Phew.. it's only taken, what, twenty years? I think I was at college when a third stage of the shopping centre was proposed. Has it really been that long?
[checks grey hairs amidst the thinning pate]
Why yes, yes it has. And was it worth the wait? Well, I won't know for sure until I see a film there. All I've done at the moment is have a furtive shufty around the foyer; it's not too shabby, nice and clean (for the time being) though weirdly laid out downstairs.
The ticket counter (such as it is) is tucked into a corner on the right as you enter; immediately in front is a lift (nice) and an automated ticket machine (was broken, though possibly fixed by now). That said, all tills in the place sell tickets so a big counter isn't all that important (the set up reminded me a little of the Harbour Lights in Ocean Village and that does OK with teeny till area).
Upstairs there appeared a large selection of comestibles (mmm, nachos!), a spacious seating area and a tidy bar. Ideal for film geek type film quiz nights? Oh yes. All I have to do now is keep my fingers crossed that another projector doesn't go TU (like one did on Sunday) and that I don't get freaked out by back projection on the screens.
As for the rest of Market Quay, it reminds me of that old Pete Seeger song; all made of ticky tacky, all looks the same. Shame.
